bits
2020
bits is a series of woodcut prints exploring the printed pixel. Low-resolution color images are generated on the computer and laboriously mapped onto an analog matrix (a plastic fluorescent light grid) using hundreds of tiny plywood blocks as the “pixels”. The blocks are inked with CMYK process colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, & blacK) and then pushed through an etching press. The title of each print refers to the percentage of CMYK color present in the image.
